All this time my family has called the following recipe chocolate sugar crunchies …. this week I found it’s actually referred to as Monkey Munch. My 5 year old granddaughter had the giggles the whole short time it took to make it. No matter what you call it, it’s still delicious, delightful, easy and fun!
You will need:
- Huge bowl!
- Medium microwaveable bowl
- Wax Paper
- Sealable 2 gallon size plastic bag
- 9 cups Chex cereal (any kind will do)
- 1 1/4 cup semi sweet chocolate chips (Nestle’s Toll House are terrific)
- 1/2 cup peanut butter
- 1/4 cup butter or margarine
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 1 1/2 cups of powdered sugar
Pre-measure cereal into large bowl, set aside.
Microwave chips, butter, and peanut butter until melted … I use 30 second intervals and stir … process takes about 90 seconds total.
Add vanilla and stir well.
Pour mixture over cereal and stir until well coated. I have found a wooden spoon works best for us.
Spoon or pour coated cereal into plastic bag …. this can be messy but fun if you have a kidlet helping you.
Add the powdered sugar to the bag, seal well and shake … shake and shake some more, until pieces are coated.
Removed from bag and place on waxed paper, place in fridge for few minutes, long enough for sugar to set …. then remove, serve and store any remaining cruchies in a container in the refrigerator.
Have fun and enjoy!
