The Super Bowl and cold crisp weather go together like good vodka and tomato juice. Bloody Mary’s are the perfect winter drink and the Super Bowl is the perfect culmination of another season of great football.

Make them by the glass or by the pitcher with a Bloody Mary bar for garnish.

Bloody Mary Recipe

Bloody Marys by the glass or by the pitcher

Yield 1 drink

6 oz. tomato juice
2 to 3 ounces vodka
1 teaspoon freshly squeezed lime juice
1/2 to 1 teaspoon prepared horseradish
1 teaspoon Lea & Perrins Worcestershire Sauce
1 to 4 dashes of Tabasco Sauce
Dash of celery salt
A grind of freshly ground black pepper
* Two asparagus spears, freshly steamed or jarred, spicy or not.
* Two green olives, stuffed or not.

Rim glass with sea salt. Combine the first eight ingredients and stir well. Pour over ice. Garnish with two asparagus spears positioned in the middle of a long party pick, with a green olive on each end.

Pour over ice. Bloody Marys are proper in any glass style, including a stemmed wine glass or footed tropical glass.

By the pitcher yielding about 10 six ounce servings:

46 oz. tomato juice, chilled
1-1/2 to 2-1/4 cups vodka, chilled
Juice of one-half lime
Juice of one-half lemon
1-1/2 tablespoons prepared horseradish
1 tablespoon Lea & Perrins Worcestershire Sauce
6 to 10 dashes Tabasco Sauce
1 teaspoon celery salt
6 grinds of freshly ground pepper

In a large pitcher, mix all ingredients except Tabasco Sauce and stir well with a wooden spoon. Taste and then add Tabasco Sauce a few dashes at a time until perfect to your taste.

To rim the glass: Place 6 tablespoons coarse sea salt in a saucer. Run a lime or lemon slice around the rim the glass, then dip the rim into the sea salt. Fill glasses 3/4 full of ice

Option: Combine all ingredients in a large pitcher, except vodka and hot sauce. Set out a jigger, the vodka and hot sauce bottles with asparagus spears and olive picks. Pre-rim glasses and fill 3/4 full of ice. Provide cocktail swizzlers. Let each guest finish off their Bloody Mary to taste.

* Bloody Mary Bar: Serve olives, asparagus and other garnishes of your choice in small bowls: lemon or lime slices or wedges, celery sticks, cocktail onions, pickled green beans, jalapeƱo peppers, or shrimp – cooked, peeled and deveined. Don’t forget the long party picks.
