Pigs in a Blanket are a common party food for New Year’s Eve as well as other occasions. Here is the German version that might add a little twist to the treat for your party.
I have a German daughter-in-law who is a very good cook. I’ve learned a lot from her about German dishes. Below is a recipe for Pigs in a Blanket, German style. She told me to just thaw out frozen dough. Since we don’t have the same name brands here, I wasn’t quite sure what kind of dough to use. I ended up just using refrigerated biscuit dough when I tried this out and they were just fine. You can play with the types of dough you use until you find what works best for you.
Pigs in a Blanket German Style
Thaw a log of frozen dough. Roll the dough out on a piece of wax paper that is floured. Roll it out thickly, about 1/4-inch in thickness. Cut it into 10 rectangles. Dough should be in about 3×4 pieces.
Place a small sausage on each rectangle of dough. Roll dough around the sausage.
Place on ungreased baking sheet. Bake immediately or freeze on wax paper. Bake at 400 degrees for about 20 minutes.
