Have you had green bean casserole on your Christmas dinner recipes list forever and sometimes wish you could replace it with an easy yet still tasty vegetable? Give peas a chance ( bad pun, I know ).
Usually when peas are mentioned around here, there’s groans and complaining….unless I say creamed peas.
Below is a simple, basic, yet surprisingly tasty recipe. The garlic salt is optional, as is the cheese.
If you’re new to cooking, this recipe is very hard to mess up…give it a try!

You will need :

Medium saucepan with lid
Whisk

2 cups frozen peas or one 10 oz box
2 Tbs butter
2 tablespoon flour
1 cup milk

1-1/2 tsp sugar
1/2 tsp salt
1/4 tsp pepper pepper

Dash of garlic salt ( optional )
1/2 cup shredded cheese ( optional )

Directions:

Melt butter in saucepan using medium heat. Add flour and whisk until smooth. Slowly add milk and continue whisking. Use a fork to take care of any little lumps.

Add sugar, salt and pepper; keep stirring and bring to boil. Boil about a minute then stir in peas.

Reduce heat to simmer and cover pan.Cook about 5 minutes( until desired done-ness..some like mushy peas, some don’t )
If using cheese, add half way through cooking.

Pour into serving dish and and enjoy while hot!

Tip: I often sprinkle garlic salt and minced onion in with the butter while melting, giving this recipe a unique taste.
