Four police officers were sitting in a coffee shop in Lakewood, Washington when they were ambushed by two men at 8:15am Pacific time. All four officers were killed.
The police officers had not yet started their shift; they were having their coffee and planning their day.
The Forza Coffee Company is located just outside of McChord Air Force Base. The town of Lakewood is 40 miles south of Seattle and about 10 miles southwest of Tacoma.
Reports say there are two suspects, one white, one black. One suspect is described as being between 5’7″-5’10, wearing a black jacket and jeans. They have not been apprehended at this time, 2:27pm EST. Another report indicates a lone gunman. It’s a developing story and you probably recall the misinformation during the Ft. Hood massacre.
Ed Troyer, Sheriff’s Department spokesman, had this to say:
“This was a targeted, selected ambush,” Troyer told reporters. He said a gunman came inside, opened fire and shot all four officers. Two baristas and other customers inside the shop were unharmed — “just the law enforcement officers were targeted.”
A reward of $10,000 is being offered for information at this time. The Crime Tipline is (253) 591-5959.

He went on to say:
“This was more of an execution. Walk in with the specific mindset to shoot police officers,” Troyer said. “This was a flatout ambush.”
You’re probably thinking what is a story about 4 police shot dead in a coffee shop doing on a food blog. Well, It’s like this – in my world, coffee is food. Coffee shops are great places to sit and plan your day, meet with friends, have some pie or a doughnut and just think. If you can’t be safe in a coffee shop, where can you be?
I’ve sat in many coffee shops while planning my grocery list or or weekly menu. I think it will be difficult to do that again without having this ambush at the forefront of my mind.
2009 will likely go down as the year of the massacre. Stop and think of all the innocent people slaughtered in the past 11 months. I fault liberalism, simply because they have been so accepting of criminal behavior. They are always looking for reasons to excuse the most heinous of crimes.
Four police shot dead in an ambush leaves a very bad taste in my mouth. May they rest in peace and their friends and family find solace in each other.
