I love onions, regardless the color or size, whether they’re sweet or strong flavored, and could eat them on about everything but ice cream. I think I’ve tried every onion recipe created. One of my favorites, and the easiest to make, is grilled in tin foil outside whenever we grill anything. There’s something about the taste that makes me start craving them again about 5 minutes after the grill is put away for winter!
Give this simple grilled onion recipe a try before you pack your own grill up for the season!

You will need :

Outdoor grill
Tongs
Sunny day ( optional, they’re delicious even if it rains )

6-8 large onions ( I prefer sweet, but any will do )
3/4 cup butter
Salt, garlic salt and pepper to taste ( You may use seasoning salt in place of garlic and regular salt )

Directions:

Preheat grill on high
Peel onions, cut off ends and quarter
Cut aluminum foil into 5-6 inch squares

Put 2 quarters of onion in a piece of tin foil, place butter between the quarters, add salt ,pepper and garlic to taste. Fold and close foil around onion. Repeat until onion is gone. Place foil packets on lower rack of a gas grill. If using charcoal grill, place directly on top of hot charcoal. Cook for about 15-20 minutes on each side.

Remove from heat, and remember packets will be steamy when you open them so let cool a few minutes!.
