When my children were youngsters, the only thing they liked about rutabaga was the way the word sounded. I tried many recipe’s before stumbling across a friends recipe for adding honey to it…what child doesn’t like honey? When I made it ( and of course bribed the kids to have a taste ) they loved it. If your children are “new food phobic”, give this a try….it might work for you, too!
My bribe, by the way, was the first to taste it got to lick the honey spoon!
You will need:
Medium baking dish with cover
1 large or 2 medium rutabaga
3 tsp honey
3 Tbsp butter/margarine ( softened/melted )
Salt and pepper, to taste
Peel and cut the rutabaga in chunks. Place in sauce pan, cover with water and add 1 tsp. salt. Boil until just tender. Drain and put in a medium baking dish. Add butter and honey and toss until rutabaga is nicely coated. Cover and bake at 350* for about 20 minutes, remove from oven, mash if you prefer or serve in chunks with any main course.
