I don’t know about you but when I run across a good sweet and sour sauce I can never get enough! Instead of buying it, try making a fresh batch…it’s so easy, and hey, you have the advantage of licking the spoon and pot!
You will need:
- 1/3 cup rice vinegar (may substitute white, but it won’t be as flavorful)
- 1 Tbsp Catsup
- 1 Tbsp soy sauce (may substitute Worcestershire)
- 2 tsp cornstarch
- 4 tsp water
- 4 Tbsp brown sugar
- 1/4 Cup pineapple chunks (optional)
Mix the brown sugar, vinegar, soy sauce and catsup together in saucepan. Bring to a boil. Mix cornstarch and water together and add to mixture, stirring to thicken. For a thicker sauce, add more cornstarch.
Reduce heat and simmer for about 5 minutes. Serve hot or cold.
Tip: While white vinegar may be used, there is quite a taste difference. Always use rice vinegar when available. You won’t be disappointed.
