One of my favorite desserts as a child was my grandmother’s peach cobbler. She actually made cobbler with whatever fruit was available at the time, but being from Georgia, peaches were often the fruit of choice. Here’s the recipe.
This is a super easy recipe and more delicious than it is simple. You can top it off with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and it is just about the perfect dessert!
- 1 large can peaches (drained) – fresh peaches are even better!
- 1 stick butter (or margarine)
- 1 cup self-rising flour
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 cup milk
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- pinch of salt
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Mix together self-rising flour, sugar and a pinch of salt. Add mil and vanilla to the dry ingredients.
Melt one stick of butter in a pan. Pour batter over butter once butter is melted. Pour peaches over the batter.
Do NOT stir!
Bake at 350 degrees for 30 to 35 minutes or until brown.
You can substitute the peaches for the fruit of your choice. Some favorites are pears, blueberries, cherries or apples.
This is fantastic hot out of the oven with a scoop of vanilla ice cream melting on top. Yum!
