Girl Scout Cookie Recall (Lemon Chalet Creme)

Americans expect poor quality from our foreign imports but never would we expect the Girl Scouts of America to produce an inferior product. Yet a Girl Scout cookie recall is exactly what we have in the news today.

Holiday Cookie Recipe’s: Pecan Cookies

Oh how we love our Christmas cookies! So many delicious treats and some delightful messes, we enjoy them all. I think the harder the recipe , the quicker we are to label it a Holiday or Christmas cookie..so we only have to make them once a year! The pecan cookie recipe below is quite easy and fast though. The only reason I make these during the Holiday’s is a body can only handle so much sweetness …and the Holiday season is usually the only time I have a never ending bag of pecans on hand!

Holiday Recipes: Old Fashioned Southern Christmas Cookies

One of my favorite Christmas traditions is making old fashioned Southern Christmas cookies like my grandmother used to make. During the holidays she transformed her teacake recipe into Christmas cookies and they are nothing if not delicious!

Old Fashioned Southern Christmas Cookies

Christmas cookies are a MUST during the holidays, especially if you have children. I learned to make them the way my mother and grand-mother made them. We just use the same old-fashioned teacake recipe that was passed down through the generations. Instead of cutting the dough with a small round jelly glass, we would use Christmas cookie cutters and make a variety of treats shaped like stars, stockings balls and Santa Himself.

Cut out the cookies, bake as instructed below, add frosting with some red or green sprinkles and you are good to go for a Christmas treat. Oh, and be sure to let your little ones help cut them out for their own special Christmas cookies!

Here’s an Old fashioned Southern Christmas cookies recipe if you’d like to try it.

Christmas Cookie Recipes : Santa’s Whiskers

Being snowed in isn’t always a bad thing….especially if you’re way behind on your Christmas cookies! My favorite Christmas cookie recipe’s are the one’s that can be modified, such as the Santa’s Whisker’s recipe below.

If you’re not a fan of cherries, substitute dried cranberries. While they don’t look quite the same, they do taste fantastic and the children really love them!

If you’re having one of those days with the kids underfoot, put them to work…have them help you make Santa’s Whiskers! While the dough is in the fridge chilling, they can easily be bribed into cleaning their rooms or even shoveling the sidewalk!

Christmas Cookies: Snickerdoodles

This funny sounding cookie has been a year ’round favorite of ours for years, but we have a lot of fun making them at Christmas. Snickerdoodles don’t require decorating, but we do this time of year. They are truly delicious and simple to make. This recipe makes between 4-5 dozen. Grab the kids and try a batch soon!

Oatmeal Macaroons

It’s not too early to start thinking about the Holiday’s and cooking/ baking. Most grocery stores have major sales of everything you will need on a weekly basis, so the time to stock up is now…especially if you will be doing a lot of baking. Most cookies can be made way ahead of time and frozen for later use ( unless you have a cookie monster residing with you ). The following oatmeal macaroons recipe is not only easy, but freezes well in an airtight container. Try a batch this weekend….you might just add them to your Holiday baking list!

Halloween Cookies, Treats

If you have little ones,( or even older ones)chances are their minds are on candy and other
Halloween cookies, treats, parties and costumes.
One of the oldest and easiest Halloween cookies “recipes” is below…well, it’s actually a recipe cheat born of frustration and short notice that you have to supply a treat for some event! I’m a Grandmother now and I remember my own Mother making these. The variations are many, so relax, grab the kids and enjoy yourself…these cookies are “done” in minutes. No cooking involved!

Halloween Ghost Cookies

I have finally learned to appreciate the convenience of refrigerated cookie dough, thanks to my granddaughter. At six, she loves to *cook*, as long as it doesn’t involve anything more than one or 2 ingredients. The ghost cookies below are a delight for children to make and they don’t last long. You might want to make a double batch to keep on hand through Halloween!

Flaky Cookie Bars

Below is an old but child friendly cookie bar recipe that has as many variations as it does names. Corn flake cookies never appealed to my children, but anything named flaky or crispy sure did!
This is fun to make with an older child, since it actually involves using the stove. There’s little clean-up, they’re delicious, economical and quick to make. Make some this weekend if you have the time!
